PILLBOX by Sonja Seidl

For some time now Sonja has been experimenting with sewn mesh metal work. Inspired by natural forms she created sewing patterns for metal vessels and electroformed them to provide stability. This resulted in structures which although being made of metal are very light and transparent.Sonja made this small sterling silver pill box for the first time in 2005 and designed it to integrate her mesh work into a more useful object. Here she has used it on top of the glass lid of the box and the intricate gold plated mesh pattern interacts beautifully with light - the content of the box is safely and decoratively hidden but you will have a surprising visual effect when opening the box. HIDDEN.MGX by Dan Yeffet

Hidden's strong and complex sculptural vase design was made possible through Rapid Manufacturing. Dan says that the hidden was 'growing' in the 3D printing machine and that the idea for this design literally grew from the production process. If you look carefully you can just about see the actual vessel; hidden deep within an orderly disorder of vein-like structures which reach out like a web of probing tentacles. In fact, you could be forgiven for thinking that here's the model of a human artery feeding the living organism placed inside it.
