ITALIAN PENDANT LIGHTS

TREPALLE and TRELLISSI by Michele De Lucchi

The two big ceiling lights Trepalle and Trellissi are created by skillfully blowing and forming Pyrex glass tubes. The semicircular and conical forms are controlled manually and made by expansion of flame-heated glass. The transparent glass diffuser is held by a wire hooked to a Plexi-glass disc. These lights are bigger versions of De Lucchi's Ipy collection (we also offer his wall light design IPY PARETE), giving the Pyrex material a greater design importance. They are in production since 2002, in a series of 30 pieces a year. MORE ABOUT TREPALLE AND TRELLISSI PENDANT LAMPS >>

ACQUATINTA by Michele De Lucchi

The first Acquatinta light design started from a desire to create a truly transparent light, an unpretentious and almost frugal light, but one of great quality. There is no transparency so polished and so variable, or so peculiar in its slight faults, as that of blown glass. De Lucchi experimented with numerous finishes for Murano glass and as a result this very aesthetic pendant light design comes in clear, frosted, silver coated and coloured glass. There is also a smaller version of Acquatinta: the ACQUAMIKI Murano glass pendant light. SEE ACQUATINTA LAMP IMAGES AND PRICES>>

MACCHINA MINIMA by Michele De Lucchi

As part of his studio work, De Lucchi re-worked his classic Tolomeo light (designed for Artemide) and came up with the Macchina Minima. It resembles the Tolomeo light, but a greater complexity prevents the design from ever being mass-produced. The Macchina Minima no.8 is an updated version of no.7 and like its predecessor is a light with vertical and circular (359°) movement. The combination of these two movements made by the arm makes for an extremely flexible light. Macchina is in production since 2000. MORE INFO ON MICHELE DE LUCCHI'S MACCHINA MINIMA>>

RAPID MANUFACTURED PENDANT LAMPS

QUIN.MGX by Bathsheba Grossman

Quin depicts the last and most mystical of the five Platonic solids, the twelve-sided dodecahedron. In his first four shapes Plato saw the elements that make up the material world, but in this fifth he saw the nature and wholeness of the entire universe, the spiritual quintessence. This mesmerizing light-sculpture is an embodiment of that unity: the Quintrino. Bathsheba's equally fascinating FLAME.MGX pendant lamp design and Arik Levy's MINISHAKE.MGX pendant light also feature on the Within4Walls website. MORE ABOUT QUIN LIGHT>>

FARUNO by Gabriel & Evenhuis

The amazing Faruno pendant lamp design was made possible through SLS technique. The lampshade's fragile and highly complex shape seems almost impossible to produce. It doesn't show any seams and looks like it is made out of one piece, which in a way it is. Faruno won the 2004 Design Plus Award. Its two young Dutch creators Gabriel & Evenhuis also designed and produce the KONKO pendant light which comes in two sizes. READ MORE ABOUT FARUNO>>

CONTEMPORARY CHANDELIERS

DRAWN TO THE LIGHT by Dominic Bromley

A contemporary porcelain chandelier design with a distinct feeling of grandeur, Drawn to the Light must be the most fascinating, elegant and aesthetic light we have seen for a long time.A cluster of 36 delicate pure white bone china forms are supported via transparent line and suspended concentrically around a single light source, casting enchanting shadows around walls and ceiling. These delicate porcelain pieces are very finely cast and fired with a clear gloss glaze in order to increase the bone china's natural translucency and to accentuate form and surface pattern. They slot easily onto the transparent lines and are positioned so that they can freely rotate through 360 degrees, yet still float close to each other. Handmade in Staffordshire, England. ECLIPSE by Ochre

Every now and then we stumble upon a really extraordinary light design and this stunningly gorgeous chandelier is exactly that. The unusual combination of horse hair and dark horn which Ochre have used in their design for this deeply sensual and beautiful chandelier show strongly contrasting textures in total harmony. The result is an eclipse of pure sophistication, indulgence and contemporary chic. Handmade in Britain to the highest standards, the Eclipse pendant lamp comes in two sizes and is also available as a WALL LIGHT. READ MORE ABOUT ECLIPSE HORN CHANDELIER>>

ROAST by ROASTDESIGNS

A minimum of 35 hand blown glass spheres of various hues and sizes make up this sculptural and ethereal glass chandelier. Each gorgeous glass sphere is hand blown in Europe by highly skilled glass workers and holds its own unique and highly detailed characteristics which are captured in all their glory by the single centre light source.
