CONTEMPORARY TABLE LINENS

FJORD by Libeco

The design idea for the Fjord table linen collection was to create something very soft and subtle - a bit Swedish winter looking. Fjord's fabric is a very open weave and may be a bit irregular in places, which is its natural characteristic. The idea is to mix and match the large assortment of 18 colours available for this 100% linen collection. The tablecloths and table runners have a mitred corner finish, the napkins a simple hem finish.The design for the ORKNEY table linen collection was born in the dunes of the Orkney islands. The fabric construction is the same as the one used for Fjord; light, airy and casual but very stylish indeed. Like every other Libeco design, this linen is machine washable and can be tumble dried. HANDMADE BELGIAN TABLE LACE

BRUGGE

Like the JEWEL lace design, the highly decorative Brugge lace tablemats and coasters are made of Bobbin Lace, a century old speciality of Bruges and probably the most intricate of lace techniques still practiced today. You can recognize this non-contiguous lace by the abundant floral motifs which spread throughout the design. The product is made in sections; the flowers are made separately in either thick or thin thread and are linked together by 'sewn bars' while it is created. Just imagine: the finest Bruges Bobbin Lace is made with between 300 and 700 bobbins in a highly specialized and labour intensive process. LYDIE

The Lydie lace tablemats feature highly intricate Shadow Embroidery in all four corners; a very old form of embroidery, done on a semi-transparent fabric (here a very fine linen). On the front, all you can see is what look like backstitches outlining the elements of the design - usually leaves, flowers and big bows. BEVEREN

The Beveren lace tablemats and coasters are made of a variation of so called Potten Kant, sometimes referred to as Antwerp Lace or Cap Lace, a continuous Bobbin Lace. This version has a six-point star mesh known variously as Point de Paris mesh. The cloth work is surrounded by a pair of twisted threads, a technique found in Valenciennes laces.The similarly stylish TURNHOUT lace tablemats are made of Flanders Lace, another type of continuous Bobbin Lace which has a five-hole mesh known as Roseground.
