1597 Wall Light by JANNE KYTTÄNEN for FOC

For the design of this unique sconce, Janne was inspired by the complexity of nature displayed in the highly intricate form of the coneflower. The light, which is available in two sizes, is based on a Fibonacci number and has 1597 `petals` (light sources) arranged in a similar way as they would grow on a coneflower.
Fibonacci numbers are series of whole numbers in which each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers, starting at 0 and 1. Although mathematical, the numbers are closely connected to laws of nature and are found everywhere, from our fingers and toes to the number of petals on flowers.

1597 won the prestigious Interior Innovation Award at the 2006 IMM in Cologne and was nominated for the German Design Award 2007.
It is part of both the Vitra Design Museum Collection and the MAD, Museum of Arts and Design, New York.
